"Bring greater mobility to you key business operations"

What is Wireless Technology?

Most businesses now make use of using fixed lines to send and receive data, and some use broadband internet connections to speed up their key business operations. As part of this increase in the speed with which key documents and data can be sent, the need for wireless technology has developed at a phenomenal rate over the last few years. Wireless technology refers to the sending of data locally within an office or a building, without using cables.  This technology has now reached the point where it can realistically compete with traditional hard wired systems, both in terms of speed and affordability.

What benefits does wireless technology bring?

Physical connections, such as copper cables or optical fibre, are generally used over longer distances. However, the new wireless technology can cover ever-greater distances, at much less cost that copper cables or fibre optics.

Conventionally, any office wishing to run a computer network, would first have to have copper cables installed for each computer in the building. Once completed, the user's workstation is then effectively 'tied' to a wall point, unable to move to another location.

Because wireless network technology uses radio waves to communicate, instead of copper wires, it does not restrict the user's location within the building. In addition, the same wireless technology can now be incorporated into Laptops and hand-held devices (PDAs). In many cases, the user no longer requires a complete and fixed workstation, and can move around the building while constantly connected to the corporate network.
