"Making sure the right computer system is in place: fast connectivity, good co-ordinated mobile staff"

Computer networks have evolved into complex systems:

When computer networks first became commonplace, the average connection speed was fairly slow and often unreliable.

As the technology began to move forward, the next generation of copper cable became common, which allowed computers to communicate across the network at 10 times the original speed.

Now more reliable and faster than ever before, businesses must capitalise on the opportunities this technology presents to them. Faster cable and faster networks meant greater business efficiency and profitability.

Is my network running at its greatest speed?

Computer hardware manufacturers have now developed network interfaces that will run at 10 Giga bits per second. This speed was previously only available on expensive fibre backbone. The technology is now readily available for most modern networks, at a relatively low cost.

The main computer manufacturers such as HP, ACER, DELL, IBM, etc, all now support this standard.

However, if a businesses cabling infrastructure continues to use the old standard, faster machines will continue to connect at the slower speed and does not necessarily mean a faster and more efficient business. The cabling infrastructure and connected switching equipment must also support the new standard to obtain the benefit from the faster individual machines.

How can I improve the efficiency of my computer network?

JJM specialise in high speed networking, and can advise on any upgrades relevant to the specialised nature of your business, or how to increase the performance of your existing network.
